The technique is fine, but the composition seems somehow empty. The character is looking at something, but without any real emotion showing through. It's also a two colour palette, which causes a lot of focus on emotional impact, or the lack thereof. I can see in your process that you actually lost the emotion you originally had in the character's face. The curious fish is really nice though, the dimness actually draws it out and on its own would be lovely. Overall the piece feels warm due to the incoming light, it is merely jarred by the character's relatively stoic look.
