I was bad and didn't post any of the last piece of this project here, so I'm going to try and be a bit more on the ball with Project 4 = =;. Still poking at this technique and trying to get it to even out. So far though, I feel like this one came out pretty! I wasn't sure if the watercolor spills were going to work out or not, but I think I like what they wound up doing : 3

I love the softness of the lines and the lighting. The colours work well too, as does the pose. Great job.

I feel like I found more of you in this piece. The presence of this is great. I can feel warmth, softness and sensuality. I'm not so shocked by your work anymore, I feel I understand it better. The colours are more tangible to me here. It's not so flighty and hard to hold. It feels deep to me and naughty as always :-). I feel you need to explore fire in your art, not many get this right. You have the wind element, you can start revealing the other elements. You are the elements, it is your gift. Thanks for this piece.

Wow lighting. Nothing to pick at there, though if this weren't anime stylized I'd have issue with using white shininess in the hair instead of yellowish. The character's right foot looks flat or broken somehow, and really distracts the eye. Interesting touch with the spills. The right shoulder seems to lose too much definition to a lack of shading, especially considering the available ambient light. Nice slice-of-life subject matter.

All kidding aside, I've always loved your art, and I cannot wait to see more. :)

This is stunning ! I scrambled upon your art as soon as I have seen the preview image.
Mind you, this so so realistic that I pictured out my own form when I'm writing poetry !
Besides, fall is my favorite season, and the drops of rain are the lyricism in your art ! ( so does the lushly background suggests )

You're very welcome ! And, btw... It's not "the work" but "your work", needless to say you should be proud of it !
Yeah, this is really my first impression. It means also that your piece is really realistic, quite a noble aim to achieve when being a artist like you !

The colouring is marvelous. I absolutely adore it. *so jelly* D:
I love the balance between softness, "shiny-ness" and the little harder edges. Also, I really love the textures.

I have a question though and I hope you don't mind me asking. I saw on your blog that you painted your recent works completely with water colour (not black/white with a digital colour wash but like an actual traditional painting) and added digital painting strokes afterwards. But the real colouring was done with the water colour paints.
Now on this painting you have only laid down the textures and added colours completely digitally. Which way of painting do you prefer (feels more fluid and is more fun and is more effective) and which results do you like better/which gives better results in your opinion?

I'm asking because I actually like doing the colour and shading work digitally very much but I love the textured results of yours. So I wonder if I should do the main work traditionally and only do the touch ups digitally or if I can get similar good results with the latter way you documented. (I like working traditionally, too but I haven't really mixed them so far in terms of colouring.)

Sorry if I am a bother. :(

Oh no, not at all!

It's a good question, and it's kind of where this whole project is coming from. I lOVE using analog media to build up surface, texture, and mark making. I like the polish of digital media, though, and how free you can be in applying the color. Sometimes it's a bit too free though, and things just go right to mush on me.

So I guess at the moment, I'm leaning towards using the traditional tools just to add those handmade punches to my digital paintings, and kind of finding a happy medium between them. I had problems trying to paint completely in traditional media first, although i tried a lot of different approaches. including marker at one point. haha X D.

I think it all boiled down to the range of colors available to me in the final. I felt really restricted to keeping things overly local, when i tried it a few pieces ago. I may return to it after a while though, just to pick at it some more : >

And thanks so much!! I hope that answer is helpful. To be honest when it comes to this stuff, i'm really just playing it by ear and making it up as i go. the shortest answer is definitely, 'i'm still finding out' ^ ^

So I was looking through your tumblr again to refresh myself on the previous projects in this series, and I'd just like to state again how amazing and awesome your work is. I've been watching your art for, I think, 10 years now? Maybe longer, but your work just keeps getting better and better, and you always manage to experiment and push new techniques, which is something I should probably be better about doing. So yeah. This stuff is awesome. Keep at it. :)

Aww! Thank you so much, It means a lot to me coming from you! I think I've been followin' your work just as long : D. But yeah. It sort of never stops. I feel like I used to be more consistent, but at the same time I just get to picking on stuff and then get all surprised when it unravels and shoots in another direction. It'd be a lot easier if I could just let it be, you know? ^ ^;

Im really glad you've enjoyed the journey, though, and thanks again, so so much!

I don't know, I think there is a consistency to your work overall-- that sort of soft, dreamy feel and blended colors. But you experiment a lot with different looks and techniques, which is good as it can lead to unexpected but interesting surprises and new art. Sometimes I wonder if I'm not limiting myself by having so clearly established a process/style with big bold lines.

I really have, and you're quite welcome. :)

Right now it looks like you do pencils, some watercolor shading and/or splashy watercolor texture, then photoshop? I don't know that it's something I would be able to make work-- I really, really like my big bold lines-- but it seems like it would be interesting to poke at.
