I also learned a lot about llamas and their eyelashes! I have some process doodles of them and their riding gear, and a whole page of seagulls. Which really came in handy.

It was (for some reason) important to me to make absolute sure that the seagull would be in no way anthropomorphic. I just wanted it to radiate derp, to contrast with it's somehow being extremely informed. Secretly I believe the seagulls in this world are organized, and powerful.

I don't know why Harlow can understand them. Perhaps, like me, he's just sleep deprived and all of this is a bizarre hallucination brought on by being overworked and underfed.

I can't decide who I love more: the girly llamas or magic talking seagull. And I know I've already said this, but WOW this comic is so well-designed!

That seagull is so blatantly a seagull it's hilarious. The lopsided eyes. Though with what happens in later installments, it clearly does not pay to underestimate the people of the wings.

It took this page to realize that this kid doesn't use his right eye. Nice disillusionment in the first panel, bringing it back from the motion of the previous. Little details are great for the effect, and I love the llama's "unch unch". And while normally I'd say there's something seriously off about the seagull's feet, it does play onto the dopey side of things. More!
